The Call of the Siren
I have always found the mythological Siren’s to be a fascinating concept. It is believed that, in Ancient Greece, the Sirens symbolized the dangers that sailors faced at sea. Later, in the Middle Ages, the Sirens came to be associated with lust and the danger of temptation. The association with Sirens and lust has continued into the modern imagination.
I can only imagine what the sound a Siren would make to lure anybody in. But I digress, I had forgotten about the whole idea until just recently when the new year hit and I decided to take on more creative shoots. I had the perfect team in mind. Wasn’t sure how it would come out, but I did want it to be moody and beautiful. As Siren’s are expected to be both breath-taking and terrifying. The idea of being dragged to a watery grave sends chills down my spine for sure. Something about the dark water that creeps me out.
Anywho, finding the right rock took a while, as funny as that may sound. I walked a shoreline of a massive lake to find the right spot. This took about 3 days. Being that the shoot was on a weekend, I had to take in account that the location would be very crowded, so finding a place that was less crowded was crucial. It had to be near water, and large enough platform to maneuver into different angles when photographing.
Shoot day was perfect in every way. Weather was perfect, everyone showed up on time, and all nessesary equipment was present. We did have to work around an engagement proposal, which was so cute to watch. Congratulations and all best to them.
The team consisted of our gorgeous and super talented model, Whitley Queen. My favorite Make up artist Diane Razo of Color in the Air Artistry. And one of the best videographers I know, Rashad Goff who also helped me with lighting.
Small team doing big things. I am super happy with the way the images turned out and I would definitely consider doing another shoot like this. The call of the Siren is indeed strong. :)
